Odegaard has not played for over a month and was not included in Norway's World Cup qualifying squad for the matches against Estonia and Italy.

Arsenal were hoping to have Odegaard back after the international break for the north London derby against Tottenham.

But Norway manager Ståle Solbakken has quashed any chance of an imminent return from injury.

“It is steady [his recovery]," Solbakken said.

"It is going in a steady direction, but he is some distance away.”

There have been reports in recent weeks that Barcelona are lining up a big move for Odegaard at the end of the season.

Renowned X account IndyKaila posted on social media: “FC Barcelona have added Martin Odegaard to their shortlist.

“We understand Barcelona believes the player is ready for a major career change. The Spanish club will make their move in June.”

However, Arsenal have made it clear to Barcelona that they have no intention of selling Odegaard.

Despite these injury problems, Odegaard remains one of Arsenal’s most important players and they have no intention of selling.

The Norway superstar will have two years remaining on his current Arsenal contract when the 2026 summer transfer window opens but it seems as if the Gunners want to extend his stay.

Odegaard spent six years at Barcelona’s fierce-rivals Real Madrid before moving to Arsenal in 2021, although he failed to establish himself as a regular at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting youngsters.

In total, the Norwegian made just 11 first-team appearances for Los Blancos during his time at the club, while he was sent on four separate loan spells to Heerenveen, Vitesse Arnhem, Real Sociedad and Arsenal.

The 26-year-old impressed during his temporary spell at the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal paid €35m to make the deal permanent in August 2021.

Since arriving in north London, Odegaard has emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League and he has already played over 200 times for the Gunners.
