Antonio Conte mocks Man Utd AGAIN as Hojlund explains WHY he quit
Antonio Conte again aimed at a dig at Man Utd for their decision to sell Rasmus Hojlund as the striker explained why he joined Napoli.
Hojlund enjoyed a fantastic week with Napoli as he scored the winner in successive matches against Sporting Lisbon and Genoa, firing home a double versus the Portuguese side in the Champions League.
The Denmark striker joined Napoli from United this summer on loan for €5 million with an obligation to buy for a further €45m.
And despite struggling in his two years at United, Hojlund has immediately impressed at Napoli and now has four goals this season in six games.
What did Conte say?
After the win over Genoa, Conte once again aimed a dig at United - having last month also mocked the Red Devils over their decision to sell him last season's Serie A MVP Scott McTominay.
"He's a 22-year-old who was on the sidelines at Manchester United,” Conte told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He has significant room for improvement, he needs to work because he has the potential to become a star, and he's proving it."
Hojlund himself explained the reasons after the game why he left United to join Conte at Napoli.
“Conte is a top coach. I came here because I knew this was an important step for me," the Denmark star explained.
"Napoli is a great club, and a wonderful place to live. It’s exactly what I need right now in my career.”
Hojlund was no longer in manager Ruben Amorim's plans for the season and had not played a minute this campaign when he left.
Man Utd signed Hojlund in the summer of 2023 from Atalanta for €75 million plus €10m in add-ons.
The 22-year-old struggled badly, failing to score a single Premier League goal before Christmas in his first season.
Despite picking up in the second half of the campaign, he was a disaster in his second season.
Hojlund scored just four Premier League goals all season and United gave up on the striker.
Napoli decided to move for Hojlund after Romelu Lukaku suffered a long-term injury that will keep him out until close to Christmas.
AC Milan had been favourites for Hojlund but Napoli moved in to close the deal.
