Trabzonspor and Man Utd are set to open talks over the permanent transfer of Andre Onana.

The Manchester United goalkeeper joined Trabzonspor on loan for the season at the end of the summer transfer window but there was no option to buy in the deal.

However, Onana has been so impressive for the Turkish side - leading them up to second in the league table - that Tranzonspor already want to make the transfer permanent.

According to The Sun, the Turkish club are already sold on Onana, who has kept two clean sheets in four games.

They have already informed United of their plans to sit down and discuss a permanent move, something United are unlikely to object to.

Onana to Trabzonspor

The report claims that Onana's personal terms won't be a problem as Turkish sides are well known for paying big salaries.

The big question will be whether the two teams can come to an agreement on a transfer fee, given United paid €55 million to sign Onana two years ago and he still retains a high amortised value on his contract.

United attempted all summer to offload Onana after two miserable seasons at Old Trafford.

They failed to find a buyer in Europe before the end of the main summer transfer window but managed to loan him out to Trabzonspor as the Turkish window closed later than the rest of the continent.

Big things were expected of the Cameroonian, who had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri in 2022-23, playing a key role in their run to the final.

He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana endured an error-prone season in 2023-24, with United having their worst defensive record and most goals conceded in decades.

He made a string of mistakes, in particular in the Champions League group stage elimination in games against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.

Last season Onana improved a touch earlier in the campaign but he reverted to his first season's form in 2025 as United went trophyless and finished in 15th.

And this campaign he was dropped for Altay Bayindir for the first three Premier League games of the season in a clear sign his future at United was up. Bayindir also struggled, leading to United signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

Onana did play in the EFL Cup game against Grimsby but disappointed in a shock exit on penalties.
