Fabian Hurzeler responds to Man Utd job offer rumours
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has played down reports linking him with the manager's job at Manchester United.
Ruben Amorim is at serious risk of being sacked at Man Utd, with Fabrizio Romano admitting on Tuesday that his job as manager is "absolutely not safe".
It is widely believed that if results do not improve fast then Amorim could be sacked as manager in October.
Brighton boss Hurzeler is one of the managers who has been linked with replacing Amorim after an impressive start to the season.
Hurzeler became the youngest permanent manager in the history of the Premier League when he succeeded Roberto De Zerbi as Brighton manager in 2024 at the age of 31.
He finished eighth last season and this term has led Brighton to impressive wins over Man City and Chelsea.
But the US-born German has poured cold water on rumours of an imminent move to United.
What did Hurzeler say?
“Tough decisions and rumours are always part of this job so you have to accept it, you have to deal with it, but I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim so I won’t talk about his job or any rumours that might come," Hurzeler said.
“Regarding him, I’m really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion, I’m very happy here and we still habe a lot of work to do.”
Man Utd have picked up just seven points from their first six games in the Premier League and find themselves in 14th position.
They were also humiliatingly eliminated from the League Cup by fourth division Grimsby.
Amorim was appointed as manager of Man Utd in November 2024, succeeding the sacked Erik ten Hag.
There were high hopes for the manager after he impressed at Sporting Lisbon, leading the team to five trophies - including two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles.
He also helped develop a host of talented players, including new Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres.
But Amorim has failed badly to replicate his success at Sporting at Man Utd.
United finished the 2024-25 season in 15th position, failed to win a trophy and endured arguably the worst campaign in the club's history for over 50 years.
The 40-year-old has one of the worst win percentages in Man Utd's history at under 37 per cent.
