The decision of PSG to sell Donnarumma shocked many people as he had been arguably the key player in the club winning the Champions League only a few months earlier.

Campos has now claimed that Donnarumma's salary demands were the main reason why PSG decided to sell him a year before his contract was due to expire.

What did Campos say?

“The club is more important than anyone. That has changed at PSG,” Campos told RMC.

“Donnarumma’s case was a set of circumstances that led to this decision, as he requested a salary at the level of the old PSG, not the current one.

“Our policy is very tied to merit. You earn more when you deserve it and when you play.

“We took time to discuss Gigio’s situation. We were forced to find solutions in a case where we couldn’t reach an agreement.

“The star is the club, the whole group.

“The salary policy applies to everyone. The club’s stability will not change because of one player who wants to be different."

FootballItalia reports that Donnarumma earns €15 million a year at Man City and his salary will increase over the course of his contract.

Donnarumma made an excellent debut at Man City in the 3-0 win over Man Utd, making one brilliant save from Bryan Mbeumo.

Pep Guardiola personally pushed for the transfer and hopes the Italian can inspire a team who have made a poor start to the Premier League season.

The Italian is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now after a series of sensational performances in the Champions League triumph last season.

Donnarumma played a pivotal role in PSG winning the tournament with decisive performances on their run to the final.

Against Liverpool in the last-16, Donnarumma made two big saves in the penalty shootout from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones to take PSG through.

Against Aston Villa in the next round, he performed a series of impossible saves to prevent a stirring second leg comeback in Birmingham.

And then in the semi-final success over Arsenal, Donnarumma made four miraculous saves - two in each leg - to ensure PSG won both legs and 3-1 on aggregate.

In the final itself, Donnarumma had little to do as PSG thrashed Inter 5-0 in Munich.

Having debuted at the age of 16, Donnarumma already has 10 years of experience and over 400 club appearances under his belt for Milan and PSG.

He also has been capped 76 times for Italy, winning Player of the Tournament at Euro 2020 as the Azzurri won the trophy.

He has a particularly impressive record against English teams and on English soil, most memorably in the Euro 2020 final shootout win against England.
