One of Benfica's presidential candidates has promised to sign Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva next summer, but Juventus have now also entered the race for the Portugal international, according to Italian media.

The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer and could finally leave Man City, having been perennially linked with a departure in recent years. Silva was previously a target for Barcelona and PSG.

This summer, talk of an exit was muted due to the fact that Pep Guardiola opted to personally appoint Silva as Man City's new captain, a notable change from his usual practice of letting the team choose their leader.

Despite this, his stint at the Etihad is likely to come to an end in 2026, and speculation over his next destination is already rampant. The rumours have been fuelled by Benfica's presidential candidate Jorge Noronha Lopes, who has promised to sign Silva next summer.

Coach Bruno Lage, who has since been replaced by Jose Mourinho, also said last week that he expects the 31-year-old to return to his boyhood club 'soon.' However, Benfica will not have a free run at the Portuguese.

Juventus eye Silva transfer

According to Tuttmercatoweb, Juventus have also taken a keen interest in Silva as they want to bolster their midfield options in the near future. The Man City star is being closely monitored by the Bianconeri.

In addition to Silva, Juventus have identified former Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, now at Al-Hilal, and former Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as potential targets.

Benfica will be wary of showing complacency when it comes to courting Silva after being burned by Joao Felix in the summer. He publicly talked up a return to Lisbon, only to ultimately follow the money and join Al-Nassr.

It's too early to say where Silva will end up, but it's clear that Benfica won't have it easy, even if they will have a significant emotional advantage.
