Fabrizio Romano gives 'HERE WE GO' on HUGE Isak replacement transfer for Newcastle
Newcastle are ‘closing in’ on a blockbuster striker signing that could finally pave the way for Alexander Isak’s exit to Liverpool before the summer transfer window closes on Monday.
Isak has been on strike all summer after informing the club of his desire to leave for Liverpool, having failed to train with the squad or appear in any of their fixtures since the end of last season.
Newcastle have been adamant that Liverpool or any club have yet to meet their valuation of Isak and that they will only consider the striker’s sale if they can first sign two replacements, having also lost Callum Wilson this summer.
The Magpies have missed out on a number of targets this summer, with the latest being Jorgen Strand Larsen after Wolves rejected a second bid in excess of €65 million, leaving Newcastle struggling to sign one forward let alone two.
However, the Daily Mail report that a ‘shock development’ on Thursday has led to Newcastle ‘closing in’ on a move for Nick Woltemade of Stuttgart, a claim which Fabrizio Romano has already given a 'here we go' to.
Newcastle will pay an initial fee of €80m for Woltemade, which could rise to €90m with add-ons, and the player is already said to be heading for a medical in the next 24 hours.
Isak transfer saga set to come down to deadline day
Woltemade had been strongly pursued by Bayern Munich this summer but Stuttgart rejected a number of bids exceeding €60m from their Bundesliga rivals and have been hesitant to consider his exit thusfar.
Even if Newcastle pull off the signing of Woltemade, they would still look to bring in another striker before they consider Isak’s departure, despite the latest report claiming that the club accept the player’s exit would be the best solution for all parties.
Having failed in approaches for Strand Larsen and Yoane Wissa in recent weeks, Newcastle’s pursuit of a forward will likely come down to deadline day and keep a number of deals in play too.
Chelsea are believed to be stalling on talks with Bayern Munich for Nicolas Jackson in the hope that Isak’s situation would encourage a more permanent deal for their striker.
Liverpool would still be required to submit a bid of at least €150m to convince Newcastle to sell Isak, with Arne Slot’s side also considering defensive reinforcements such as Marc Guehi, suggesting that they too may not resolve their squad until the closing stages of the summer.
