Ruben Amorim’s side had been in talks with Brentford over a summer deal for Mbuemo for several weeks and after two failed bids, they saw an offer worth an initial €75m, plus a further €7m in add-ons, accepted by the Bees.

Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals last season and he has left Brentford with 121 goal contributions in 242 appearances for the club.

He joined the west London club for €6.5m from Troyes back in 2019 and he has established himself as one of the English top flight’s best wingers since Brentford’s promotion in 2021.

The Cameroon star is expected to be deployed as a wide No.10 in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, with Matheus Cunha set to feature on the opposite flank and Bruno Fernandes to be dropped into a deeper midfield role.

Mbeumo has followed head coach Thomas Frank and captain Christian Norgaard by leaving Brentford this summer, and he has become the sixth signing of the Amorim era at Man Utd.

The Red Devils have also signed Diego Leon, Enzo Kana-Biyik and the aforementioned Cunha so far this summer, while Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven joined the club during the January transfer window.

Mbeumo was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, but he set his sights on completing an Old Trafford switch, while Spurs eventually ended their interest after completing the signing of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus for €63.8m.
