The Red Devils have already completed the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha for a fee of €74.2 million, and they are hoping to reach an agreement to sign Mbeumo and a new centre forward before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

In fact, Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical at Man Utd next week, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

However, the Red Devils are yet to fully finalise a deal with Brentford and they are still unwilling to match the Bees’ asking price of around €80m. As a result, the deal hasn’t quite been confirmed yet, meaning Tottenham Hotspur may have the chance to hijack the transfer.

Tom Heaton contract confirmed

Meanwhile, Man Utd have announced that Tom Heaton has signed a new one-year contract extension at the club.

The 39-year-old, who has only made three appearances for the Red Devils since his arrival in 2021, was due to become a free agent this summer, but he has agreed to extend his spell at Old Trafford by a further 12 months.

Upon confirmation of his new deal, Heaton told the Man Utd website: “I am extremely proud to continue to represent Manchester United. As a group, we are all really excited for the season ahead.

“I am ready to support the team in every capacity as we prepare to get back to challenging for the biggest honours.”

Jason Wilcox, Man Utd’s Director of Football, added: “Tom’s leadership and experience are really important for the group so we’re pleased that he will be part of the squad again next season.

“Tom’s mentality and excellent preparation to ensure that he is always ready to perform when called upon makes him the perfect complement to our goalkeeping group.”
