Jarrad Branthwaite is set to sign a contract extension at Everton, confirming that he will not join Chelsea or any other suitors this summer.

The England international has established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting centre-back talents over the past two seasons, and this has naturally made him a sought-after commodity.

Last year, Man Utd were desperate to sign him, but their financial situation meant that they were only able to make low-ball bids, which Everton rejected out of hand. The Red Devils ultimately ended up signing Matthijs de Ligt instead.

This summer, links with Man Utd have been few and far between. Instead, Branthwaite has primarily been associated with a move to Chelsea, who are in the market for a young central defender.

The Blues missed out on Dean Huijsen, while Jorrel Hato is being chased by Arsenal. At the start of the month, it was confirmed that Chelsea are indeed admirers of Branthwaite, but a deal was ultimately deemed unlikely.

Branthwaite set for Everton extension

A move to Chelsea is unlikely because Branthwaite has been in talks with Everton over a contract extension. According to The Times, an agreement is now being finalised, and the 23-year-old will pen a new five-year contract with the Toffees.

Branthwaite is set to be rewarded for his massive progress with a significant pay rise. Getting the green light from the defender is a coup for Everton, who want to be ambitious under the new Friedkin ownership.

The Merseyside club are said to be prioritising 'stability' as they gear up for their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after leaving the iconic Goodison Park, where they had been playing since 1892.

Club legend Seamus Coleman has also signed a new contract as he heads into his 17th campaign with the Toffees.
