EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle give Xavi chance to complete Premier League dream

Newcastle United have made initial contact with Xavi Hernandez to assess his interest in becoming the club’s next manager, FootballTransfers has been told by sources close to the situation.
The approach to the former Barcelona head coach is said to have come from within the club’s hierarchy, who believe a figure of Xavi’s stature is needed to elevate Newcastle to the next level, both on and off the pitch.
It’s understood that those at the top of the club feel current manager Eddie Howe lacks the same global appeal and “pulling power” that Xavi commands, although there is an acceptance that parting ways with the 47-year-old would be a hugely controversial decision.
The information was shared by a reliable source who had previously broken the news of Xavi’s departure from Barcelona before it became public knowledge. That source maintains close ties to the Spanish coach’s camp.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Xavi recently revealed his desire to return to management, specifically expressing interest in the Premier League.
“I want to return as coach again. I’d like a good project, something like a ‘you have four years to work and make a project’ type of thing. I would love to work in the Premier League,” he told The Athletic.
The timing and tone of the statement align closely with the kind of long-term vision Newcastle are thought to be building toward.
When asked about the likelihood of the move happening, the source responded: “Richest club in the world,” emphasising Newcastle’s growing financial strength amid a gradually improving Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) situation.

Newcastle ticks Xavi's boxes
FootballTransfers understands that Newcastle would be an ideal project for Xavi, matching the manager’s stated desire for a meaningful and patient rebuilding process.
In a strategic move to retain key talent, Newcastle’s board is also keen to make a statement that will impress star striker Alexander Isak. Xavi, who Isak is known to admire from his playing days, could serve as a key figure to show the club’s ambition and intent.
While Newcastle appear to be the only early mover, Manchester City was also mentioned as a possible destination for Xavi once Pep Guardiola eventually departs. However, no talks between City and Xavi have been reported as yet.
FootballTransfers has been told that although City remain an attractive option, it may not represent the type of project Xavi is currently looking for, as he has stated a desire for a more developmental challenge.
