Manchester United will look to revamp their squad this summer by selling their dead wood and players on high wages and one fringe player has admitted he is open to leaving the club.

United will be operating under tight constraints and will be forced to supplement their transfer budget through sales in order to conduct the rebuild wanted by new partial owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

One forgotten man who is expected to be part of the casualties is Donny van de Beek, who has spent this season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he has struggled to make his mark.

The 27-year-old has one more year on his contract at Old Trafford and told Dutch media that he would be open to making a return to former club Ajax if he was to leave United this summer.

“Why not? Ajax has always been a special place for me, so we certainly cannot rule that out,” he told Dutch outlet vi. “I have also had mixed years due to injuries. But now I’m looking forward again. If I keep working hard, I’m confident things will turn out fine.

“It is up to you to turn it around. I’m working on that. I am convinced of my own qualities. If I stay fit and keep working hard, I will definitely be fine.”

Van de Beek ‘will not’ stay in Premier League

Van de Beek has had a disastrous time since joining United from Ajax in 2020 for €39 million, making just 62 appearances for the club and spending two stints out on loan.

The Dutch midfielder has made just eight appearances since joining Frankfurt in January and it appears unlikely the German side would be willing to sign him permanently.

With Van de Beek having no future at his parent club, the player’s agent, ruled out a move to Ajax and revealed United ‘did not want’ him to remain in the Premier League.

"He does not want to stay in the Premier League, because United does not want that. That is not a good choice for him. He has to return to a club that plays good football,” Guido Albers told ESPN. "In any case, he's not going back to Ajax.

"My preference was to look in France, Italy or Spain. If I can get him there, that would be fantastic. At a club where he will simply play 'at ten', as he also played at Ajax. Everyone saw there what a fantastic player he can be."
