Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he could quit Chelsea at the end of the season.

The Argentine's first year in charge at Stamford Bridge has seen some ups but also a lot of downs. Pochettino's young team have been infuriatingly inconsistent, though they did reach the final of the Carabao Cup and the semi-final of the FA Cup.

Currently on a decent run of form, Chelsea, after looking dead and buried for most of the season, could yet sneak into Europe by the end of the campaign, having now overtaken Man Utd and sitting in seventh.

Despite the upturn in the Blues' fortunes, speculation surrounding the future of coach Pochettino continues to abound. As seemingly happens at every press conference, the 52-year-old was once again asked to address his fate ahead of his side's clash with Nottingham Forest and his comments certainly raised eyebrows.

Pochettino: I could quit

The Argentine insisted that a decision on his future won't exclusively be down to Chelsea's owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali or the club's co-sporting directors. Pochettino quite openly admitted that he could simply walk away from the job at the end of the season even if Boehly and company decided to keep him on.

"If we are happy, perfect. But it is not only if the owners are happy or the sporting directors happy. If we are happy, you need to ask us also because maybe we are not happy and we accept the situation and we need to split. It is not going to be the first time the coaching staff, at the end of the season, decide to not keep going."

"But at this end, it is always the opposite way, it is always the owners or the sporting directors. They can say tomorrow, maybe I can say 'I want to leave.' It is two parties to make a decision."

"Because Chelsea is not happy, the owners or the sporting directors. Maybe we are not happy because we arrive here with a job to do and in the end it has not happened what we expect. I am not saying I am not happy but it is always one side and maybe [we need to look at the] other side."
