However, the Bavarian club have triggered an option to give him a one-year deal that will expire in 2025.

This means that the centre-back's Tottenham career is officially over after 10 years at the club.

He was an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino's side that challenged for the Premier League title in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Although, he became surplus to requirements in recent seasons and was not part of Ange Postecoglou's plans.

De Ligt's Bayern future

Dier's signing could pave the way for Matthijs De Ligt to leave Bayern in the summer.

The Dutchman has long been linked with a move away and there are said to be several interested teams, not least Manchester United.

"Matthijs de Ligt remains a player to watch for this summer," Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside.

Man United’s business in the summer transfer market will depend on the new director of football.

"We are still waiting for an announcement on that, so it’s too early to say or speculate on whether the Red Devils will make a move for De Ligt.

"Arsenal are looking into defenders for the summer it’s true, but their preferred targets are not something that’s been decided upon yet either."
