Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso has proven that he deserves to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool after thrashing Bayern Munich 3-0.

Bayern have long been the dominant force in the Bundesliga, especially since the turn of the century, winning 17 of the last 23 titles, including the last 11 straight.

The last team to stop them was Jurgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund, who won successive titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

This immense achievement is what earned Klopp the Liverpool job, and Alonso is following in his footsteps.

Alonso's Leverkusen comprehensively beat Thomas Tuchel's Bayern today and now find themselves five points clear at the top of the table.

With 11 games to go, the Spaniard's side are fully expected to keep Bayern behind, meaning he would move to Anfield as a Bundesliga champion - just like Klopp did.

Alonso favourite to replace Klopp

Alonso is the bookmakers' favourite with to become the next permanent manager of Liverpool.

The Spaniard is not only one of the most exciting young managers in world football, but he spent five years at Anfield as a player, winning the Champions League in 2005.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to extend his stay at Real Madrid means that the Liverpool job is the biggest available.

He is currently priced at 1/2 to become the next Liverpool manager, as per Oddschecker, indicating that it would be a surprise to see anyone else take up the position.

Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi is the second favourite to replace Klopp (8/1) after his brilliant start to life in the Premier League, while Klopp’s long-term assistant manager Pep Lijnders is the third favourite (12/1).
