Mudryk 2.0! Romano drops transfer bomb on Arsenal and Chelsea target
Ukraine star Georgiy Sudakov is set for a spectacular new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has become one of Europe's most sought-after prospects over the past 12 months, with the 21-year-old starring both domestically and in the Champions League for his side.
Sudakov's performances have attracted the attention of Europe's elite. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus have all been heavily associated with the youngster, the names of the former two evoking memories of the Mykhailo Mudryk transfer saga.
A year ago, Arsenal appeared to have a deal for the then-Shakhtar man wrapped up only for Chelsea to swoop in. The winger has thus far failed to live up to his price tag, which could yet rise to €100 million, but he has reportedly been hard at work trying to recruit Sudakov for the Blues.
Besides them both being Ukrainian and having had the same suitors, Mudryk and Sudakov could soon share another similarity.
Romano drops contract bomb
Fabrizio Romano has surprisingly revealed that the 21-year-old is set to sign a new deal with his Ukrainian club. Not only is this surprising because he only penned a new one until 2028 just last April but also because the fresh contract will contain an eye-watering release clause.
The Italian transfer expert claims that the exit clause will be "worth more than €100m," though he did not disclose the exact figure. The new contract will run a year longer than the previous one.
Romano insists that Sudakov will be one to watch in the summer transfer window, but clubs will surely be wary of spending Mudryk-esque money on another Shakhtar star after seeing how the midfielder's former teammate has fared since making the step up to the Premier League. Mudryk has notched four goals and assists in 40 appearances since his move to Chelsea.
