Chelsea have held talks over the potential signing of David Odogu, according to a report.

The young Wolfsburg defender is already a highly decorated player despite only turning 17 in the summer. A U17 World Cup and European Championship winner with Germany, the youngster is one of the continent's biggest defensive prospects.

Though yet to make his senior debut at club level for the Wolves, Odogu has impressed at the youth level and he played the full 90 minutes in all but one of his nation's games at the U17 World Cup in Indonesia, which Germany won on penalties against France. The centre-back even notched an assist against Venezuela in the group stage.

For Wolfsburg, Odogu has featured in the U19 Bundesliga, making eight appearances, scoring once and assisting twice so far this term, with his towering height of 191cm (6ft 3in) certainly being an advantage at that age level. Now, Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign him.

Chelsea want Odogu

That's at least according to The Sun, which claims that the Blues have initiated contact with the Bundesliga side regarding the youngster. Championship leaders Leicester City are also one of many English sides interested in Odogu, who is apparently keen on the move to England.

Talks are at an early stage as things stand, though signing Odogu would certainly be in line with Chelsea's transfer policy under Todd Boehly. The 17-year-old would be another wonderkid snapped up by the Blues, with the above-mentioned report asserting that Odogu has already drawn comparisons with ex-Blues star Antonio Rudiger.

This is in spite of the fact this transfer approach has drawn criticism for its lack of immediate results as the club once again languish in mid-table. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to be keen to ditch this guideline in favour of signing more established stars.
