Chelsea fans have been left salivating over Kendry Paez’s performance for Ecuador against Chile in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday, with many proclaiming that they have signed a superstar to rival Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

Still only 16, Paez cannot officially join Chelsea until his 18th birthday, which will come in the summer of 2025.

Blues supporters, though, already cannot wait for the exciting midfield talent to join up with their squad after watching him turn out for Ecuador in midweek.

Incredibly, Paez has only played 25 senior matches for club side Independiente but has already featured on five occasions for his country, even bagging a goal.

Angel Mena may have been the player that settled the score against Chile in Ecuador’s favour, but it was Paez who caught the eye of Chelsea fans watching the game, with his shot creating the goal.

His overall stats for the game were formidable, too. In the 82 minutes he played, he touched the ball 54 times, completed 91% of his passes, 80% of his long passes and completed three of four dribbles. It was a complete display from a teenager expected to play a significant attacking role for his team.

“Kendry Paez vs Chile. Bruv we've copped a superstar. How's this guy 16?” one asked.

Another chipped in: “Kendry Paez is the best 16 year old itw. The maturity and understanding of football he has at such a young age is astounding. Absolute gem.”

A third compared the 16-year-old to Real Madrid’s superstar summer signing: “Jude Bellingham should watch out. Kendry Paez is him.”

Alex Goldberg said: “Another impressive showing tonight for Kendry Páez. 16 year olds shouldn’t be this good.”

One more gushed: “Kendry Paez is the best teen talent in the world. Chelsea signed a superstar.”
