Chelsea are not working on a deal to sign Aaron Ramsdale in January as things stand, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The goalkeeper debate at Arsenal shows no signs of subsiding. After not featuring against lowly Sheffield United - despite Mikel Arteta otherwise making plenty of changes - Aaron Ramsdale was given a chance in the Carabao Cup against West Ham.

Prior to the match, ex-Premier League shot-stopper Shay Given had called the situation surrounding Ramsdale and David Raya "a bit of a mess" and the England international would ultimately do himself no favours as Arsenal were humiliated by the Hammers, with Ramsdale looking unconvincing on Jarrod Bowen's goal, the third in a 3-1 win for the hosts.

David Raya himself hasn't been without fault in recent weeks, perhaps due to the unnecessary pressure and scrutiny the Gunners' keepers are under because of Arteta's decision to have "two number ones." Raya, only on loan from Brentford, is expected to reclaim his spot in the side, which will leave Ramsdale once again on the bench and the rumours of a January exit are refusing to go away.

Ramsdale to Chelsea?

One club linked with the 25-year-old are Chelsea, who remain in the market for a top-class goalkeeper despite signing two players in that position in the summer. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues won't move for Ramsdale - or likely any shot-stopper - in January.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the transfer expert wrote: "Understand Aaron Ramsdale is currently not part of Chelsea list as new goalkeeper. No negotiations are taking place now. Chelsea," the Italian continued, "are still quiet on GK position as no talks are ongoing about that for January window."

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently claimed that the Ramsdale situation could be an "intriguing" one for the winter window, but he also stressed that Arsenal will likely be unwilling to sanction a move for the keeper midway through the season.
