It is thought that Chelsea are big fans of Openda, but it will be tricky to persuade Leipzig to let go of a player they recently took on. The club are typically open to moving on players to the Premier League - but only if a reasonable fee is forthcoming.

Openda can operate anywhere across the front three, meaning that he will grant them a tactical edge if he were to join up at Stamford Bridge.

Their attempts to lure in Openda may be thwarted, too, but the interest shown by

Manchester United, who are also seeking to enhance their attacking options. The club signed Rasmus Hojlund during the summer transfer window but Erik ten Hag remains on the lookout for another striker to come into the fold - something he wanted over the summer window but did not have the funds to do.

Both teams are struggling this season, and are in dire need to bolster their options in the strikers department.
