Chelsea and Arsenal will battle it out for the signature of a Ukraine star again in January, according to a report.

The Blues beat the Gunners to the signature of then-Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk in the 2023 winter transfer window after a lengthy saga during which it initially appeared as though the latter would get the upper hand. Chelsea paid a whopping €70 million with some reports claiming the deal could rise to as high as €100m.

Mudryk has thus far failed to repay the faith (and investment) shown in him. Only recently, against Fulham, did he score his first Blues goal, though he certainly has a lot of potential. Now, the two London giants have their sights set on Shakhtar's next big star.

Who is Georgiy Sudakov?

Georgiy Sudakov is a 21-year-old attacking midfielder who has caught the eye at Shakhtar and the Ukrainian national team. Sudakov has contributed with two goals so far this season, while scoring six in 20 games for Ukraine's U21s.

Now a senior international, Sudakov regularly lines up alongside Mudryk, who is a big fan of his compatriot. After assisting him at the U21 Euros in a 3-1 win over France in July, Mudryk said: “Usually it’s the opposite – he gives it to me and I score."

“And now he scored a penalty, and I thought ‘I need to score more’. I do everything for my friend, I hope he just keeps scoring. I’m just promoting him!” Asked if he would like to play alongside him again at club level, the Chelsea star responded: “That would be great.”

Indeed, the Daily Express claims that Mudryk is urging the Blues hierarchy to make a move for Sudakov.
