Spurs signed Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli over the summer window, meaning that the No.1 spot has gone to the Italian. But Lloris still remains with the north London club. It is thought that Newcastle attempted to bring in Lloris as a backup to Nick Pope but the veteran opted not to join.

Lloris is contracted to Spurs until 2024, meaning that, unless he signs fresh terms, he will be leaving on a free transfer next summer - or he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

Lloris was dropped after a poor display last season in which he made a hat-ful of mistakes.

The shot-stopper is revered at Spurs but given his age and ability, it’s believed that it is the appropriate time to move on.

Spurs could bin off Lloris now

It comes after Football Insider’s story that Spurs could terminate the 36-year-old’s contract. After the player failed to secure a move away from Tottenham, the club are now considering whether to pull the plug on his deal.

They say that as well as Newcastle, Nice were looking to sign the player after the terminated the contract for Kasper Schmeichel.
