It will be impossible for Liverpool to turn down a world record bid from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah, according to former Reds star Jason McAteer.

Al-Ittihad are going all-in on the Egyptian superstar and are hoping to sign the 31-year-old before the Saudi Arabia transfer window closes on Thursday.

They already had a massive offer of €175m rejected by Liverpool last Thursday.

But according to multiple reports, Al-Ittihad will return with a world record transfer offer for Salah.

The offer is expected to be around €234m.

And McAteer, who played for Liverpool from 1995 to 1999, believes that such an offer would be impossible for the club to turn down.

The 10 most expensive Saudi transfers of all time

What did McAteer say about Salah?

"I’ve read all the papers, and as much as Jurgen Klopp wants to bang the door and say he’s not for sale, everything's got a price in life,” McAteer told BoyleSports.

"If they come knocking with 200-250 million, the owners, I just don't think they can turn that kind of money down for a 31 year old who is in the last two years of this contract."

Were Liverpool to accept, it would make Salah the most expensive player in football history.

He would smash the current world record set by Neymar for his 2017 move to PSG from Barcelona.

The Parisians paid €222m in order to bring the Brazilian to the Parc des Princes, meeting the attacker’s release clause in his Barcelona contract.

According to the Liverpool Echo, even if a world record bid comes in, the Reds will once again reject the offer.

As the English transfer window is closed, Liverpool will not be able to replace Salah until the January transfer window.

“I never had any doubt about his commitment. He is our player and wants to play here,” Klopp said after Salah scored and shone in the win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma for a bargain €38m in 2017 and has since gone on to become one of the club’s greatest players of all time.

He has scored 188 goals in 309 games for Liverpool, leading the club to the Premier League and Champions League titles. He has won three Premier League Golden Boots and was Premier League Player of the Year in 2017-18.
