Manchester United takeover: Update as the Glazers eye £6bn sale
Manchester United’s takeover appears no closer to completion after another frustrating week of little progress on the Glazer brothers’ sale.
The Old Trafford club was effectively put up for auction late in 2022, when it was hoped a resolution might be achieved by Easter 2023, yet nearly a year later, little to no progress has been made.
Two main buyers have emerged in the form of Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim and INEOS, fronted by British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but it is thought that neither party has been willing to offer the £6 billion that the Glazers are demanding to complete a sale.

The process went quiet over the summer transfer period as Man Utd tried to get business down in the market, but there has been no significant update on the situation since Deadline Day.
As far as outsiders are aware, the position remains as deadlocked as ever, with the buyers holding fast to their offers as the Glazers continue to demand their asking price.

Man Utd fans protest
The situation continues to frustrate Manchester United fans, who continue to protest against the current ownership.
Following the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at Old Trafford in August, several thousand Man Utd supporters sat in the ground after full-time for an hour to make their feelings known, yet it appears to have done little to make the Glazers waver.
Indeed, Man Utd have since landed what is described as a world-record shirt sponsorship deal with Snapdragon while they also boasted a new shirt manufacture deal with Adidas that guarantees the club £900 million over 10 years.
Such commercial power is unlikely to persuade the Glazers to sell the club, particularly as their investment into the first-team has been limited over the course of the summer.
The takeover situation at Man Utd, therefore, is liable to rumble on for some time yet.
