Fabrizio Romano knows at least one piece of transfer business that Manchester United will conduct before the end of the summer window, stating that midfielder Fred will be sold by the Old Trafford side.

Man Utd have already added three players to Erik ten Hag’s squad this summer, with Mason Mount joining from Chelsea, Andre Onana hooking up from Ajax and, most recently, Rasmus Hojlund arriving from Atalanta. The next signing that the Dutchman will make is expected to be Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina.

But while players have arrived at Old Trafford in a steady, if frustratingly slow, stream, Ten Hag has found it more difficult to move first-team players on.

Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay are both linked with big moves to West Ham United, but while there are numerous players surplus to requirements at Man Utd, these men have proven persistently difficult to sell.

Fred is among this number. He has been linked with a move to Fulham and also Galatasaray over the course of the transfer window, but so far no club has reached the Red Devils’ valuation of €23 million (£20m).

Taking to Twitter, Romano assured Man Utd fans that a deal will be done.

“Manchester United expect Fred sale to advance next week. Sources guarantee he will 100% leave the club,” Romano stated.

“Negotiations will also continue with Real Sociedad for Donny van de Beek.”

Fred’s Man Utd disappointment

Fred arrived at Manchester United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 for a sum of €59m – a level that he would never match when playing for the club. Indeed, his highest Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) was only €37.4m in March 2022.

He has played 213 times for the Old Trafford side, scoring 14 goals in the process, including six in 56 matches last term under Ten Hag – his best tally both in terms of appearances and strikes.
