Man Utd LEGEND wants Wrexham job

Manchester United icon Dwight Yorke is open to the possibility of taking over as Wrexham manager.

That’s despite the former Trinidad and Tobago striker – who also featured in the Premier League for Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Sunderland – only having had one managerial role since retiring 14 years ago.

Yorke spent just over six months in charge of A-League outfit Macarthur FC last season, winning the Australia Cup.

And now, the 51-year-old sounds up for a new challenge – on certain conditions. He told OLBG:

“I’m unemployed as a manager and I’m very passionate about trying to get back into the industry. If Wrexham approached me and asked me to manage the team, I’d consider it. I have to make a decision that aligns with my ideas and ambitions.”

Backed by celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham ended their 15-year-exile from the EFL by clinching the National League title last term – and Yorke says the actors’ vision would have to be in sync with his own. He continued:

“If Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney matched my mindset, then it’s a good opportunity for me. There’s a lot of hype around the club and that’s understandable because of what the owners bring to the club. If the opportunity presents itself to me and I have that initial conversation with the owners about our vision for the club, then it’s a serious and exciting gig. It’s a football job that you need to be your best at, not somewhere to have fun.”

Not just yet…

Yorke might be getting a little bit ahead of himself, though: there’s no sign of Reynolds and McElhenney dispensing with current boss Phil Parkinson – who steered the Red Dragons back into League Two.

Wrexham have taken seven points from their opening five league games of the campaign, drawing 1-1 away to Barrow last time out.
