Chelsea have been without a world-class striker for years, ever since the departure of Diego Costa in 2017.

In that time, the likes of Alvaro Morata, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have all been tasked with filling that void but failed miserably.

And the aforementioned trio of strikers are not the only ones to have struggled as the Blues 'number nine'.

Indeed, playing the centre forward position is hard enough anyway, but to do it successfully at Chelsea seems to be even more of a challenge.

However, in Nicolas Jackson, the Blues may have found the man to lead the line at Stamford Bridge for years to come.

Why Nicolas Jackson will succeed at Chelsea

In the Premier League era, Costa, Didier Drogba and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink come to mind as the Blues' finest 'number nine's'.

And those three men share three key characteristics: pace, power and personality.

Well, it's far too early to see Jackson's name in that company, but he certainly appears to have the right ingredients to achieve just that.

In Chelsea's three preseason friendlies, he has shown both pace and power in abundance, on his way to scoring two and assisting three more.

In particular, his goal against Newcastle on Wednesday night, where he stormed in behind the Magpies' defence and placed the ball into the back of the net, caught the eye.

While his personality has been equally impressive, from the little we've heard of him so far, publicly embracing the challenge of replicating Drogba's incredible impact on the club.

That's the mentality a Chelsea striker should have, and that's why Jackson is the man to take the west London club forward.
