Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a return to Barcelona, if not big-money moves to the USA or Saudi Arabia, but now Marseille have emerged as a potential destination for the Chelsea outcast.

Aubameyang joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer, but his reunion with his former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel lasted less than an hour of competitive football before the German was dismissed.

One goal in 15 Premier League appearances later - only five of them starts - and Aubameyang's Chelsea career looks to be over, with Mauricio Pochettino the latest Blues boss reported to be planning without the Gabon captain.

But now Marseille could be ready to offer Aubameyang a way out of Stamford Bridge.

Marcelino a long-term admirer of Auba

"Marseille are interested in signing [Chelsea] forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a formal approach expected soon," report Sky Sports. "The manager Marcelino is a long-term admirer of the player.

"Aubameyang has just one year left on his current contract; talks have taken place between the player and the club over viable exit routes."

Aubameyang, whose highest ETV was €45m when he joined Arsenal in 2018, is still valued at €11 million by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, although it is understood Chelsea could accept a nominal fee to get him off the books.

Chelsea have already sold seven players this summer whilst releasing four more, whilst new arrivals Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson (from RB Leipzig and Vilarreal respectively) are expected to dominate the attacking positions at Stamford Bridge this season.

OM's need for Aubameyang would appear to be pronounced, with their incumbent star striker Alexis Sanchez yet to agree terms on a new deal, and reportedly having offered his services to Gunners manager Mikel Arteta in recent weeks.

Aubameyang might have struggled last season, but he has previously been crowned top scorer in England and Germany, and top-scored for Barcelona prior to his Chelsea move.
