Fabrizio Romano has debunked claims that Sheikh Jassim Ben Hamad Al Thani is close to pulling out of takeover talks for Manchester United.

The Qatari has been one of the leading protagonists in the saga for months, although there is uncertainty over just where negotiations stand at the moment.

The Glazer brothers, who own Man Utd, have opened up a third round of bidding for the club, having been unhappy with the proposals they were previously offered.

With many fans wanting to see the back of the American family as owners, this has been a concerning time, particularly as there have been increasing rumours that they are only increasingly willing to only sell a minority stake of the club meaning that they would retain overall control.

In turn, this has sparked rumours that Sheikh Jassim could be on the verge of pulling out of talks.

Al Thani’s Man Utd plans have not changed

According to Romano, though, the Qatari investors’ plan has not changed.

“From what I understand, the plan of Sheikh Al Thani is still the same: he wants Manchester United. It’s not true that he’s prepared to leave the bidding,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “He is still 100% involved. He has made a proposal and is still working on that.

“The feeling of the Al Thani family is that their proposal is the best one for the club. Not just financially but because they want to buy 100% percent of the club. They want to invest on the facilities, they want to invest in the training ground, they want to invest in the ground and of course on the squad.”

Meanwhile, the Glazers have been warned by Manchester United Supporters’ Trust that they face a “munity” if they remain in charge of the club.
