Chelsea have been advised to bring back Romelu Lukaku in the summer in a bid to solve a goal scoring crisis that has plagued the club all season.

The Blues’ issues came to a head on Tuesday, when they were knocked out of the Champions League following a 2-0 home defeat to Real Madrid.

Chelsea held their own for periods against the defending champions but ultimately failed to exert any pressure upon their rivals due to their inability to score.

EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea put ENTIRE squad up for sale

According to former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor, the Blues already have a solution in their ranks – but he’s farmed out on loan to Inter.

Speaking on TalkSport, the former Aston Villa forward gave two solutions to the problem.

“Bring Lukaku back. Ivan Toney is also great shout. They need someone who is going to score you goals, all types of goals, and who has played in the Premier League,” he said.

“It has to be a signing to tie in with Financial Fair Play as well. The amount of money they’ve already spent, they probably can’t go out and buy a £120 million striker.

“Get the team playing to Lukaku’s strengths. When Lukaku was at Chelsea, Ben Chillwell and Reece James were injured and they weren’t getting the ball in the box for him. He wasn’t getting the service.

“You look at Chelsea yesterday against Real Madrid, Lukaku would have scored a couple of goals at least – Reece James was putting the ball in the box and Havertz isn’t really going to get in there and be aggressive.

“I felt sorry for some of the Chelsea players. It was like all their hard work and there’s no point putting the ball in the box, we’ve got nowhere in there!”

Chelsea’s issues not confined to strikers

Agbonlahor also argued that others need to pull their weight more.

“The other players have got to do better. Wingers can score goals, too. When Man City player without a striker Foden, Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Gundogan were all getting in there,” he pointed out.

“You look through Chelsea’s list of goalscorers, I’m like, have I got the wrong sheet here?

“Havertz has nine, Sterling has seven, then you’ve got Mount on three, Aubameyang on three and Jorginho on three – he’s not even at the club any more!”
