Chelsea want to bring FLOP back

Chelsea could turn to a club legend to sort out their mess this season despite his uninspiring coaching record.

Graham Potter got the sack after the Blues' embarrassing 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa. It concluded a six-month spell that saw record spending, fallouts with players and an overwhelming of club facilities due to a large influx of new faces.

The first game under interim boss Bruno Saltor didn't improve their fortunes: despite finding the back of the net twice, Chelsea couldn't muster more than a 0-0 draw with Liverpool. The point gained wasn't enough to leapfrog local rivals Fulham, and Chelsea still languish in a lowly 11th, with their hopes of making a late surge for the top four diminishing by the day.

Julian Nagelsmann is the clear favourite to fill Chelsea's coaching vacancy, but now a familiar name has emerged as a potential caretaker to see out the season.

Lampard to return?

According to The Sun, club legend and former boss Frank Lampard could make a return to the Blues in a caretaker capacity to steady the ship. The iconic midfielder was spotted observing the Liverpool game at Stamford Bridge and he could stay at his former stomping ground for the foreseeable future.

Lampard initially took charge of Chelsea in July 2019. He guided the side to fourth in the league and an FA Cup final in his first season, but he was sacked in January 2021 after a poor run of form had led to the London side slipping down to ninth in the Premier League table.

After a year without a job, he replaced Rafa Benitez at Everton and saved them from relegation. Nevertheless, he was sacked again after just 12 months, having steered the Toffees back into a relegation dogfight.

A man with his reputation could perhaps get a tune out of a Chelsea squad that reportedly lacked respect for Graham Potter, but Lampard's managerial record is anything but inspiring.
