Fabrizio Romano has told Arsenal that the expectation is that Moise Caicedo will make a big move this summer, but the football transfer news specialist has claimed that there could be competition from Chelsea and Liverpool in the summer.

The Gunners moved for Caicedo in the January window but were unable to get a deal over the line, despite launching a £70 million bid for the player. Brighton refused to sell at that point, despite the Ecuador international suggesting that he wanted the move.

The Seagulls subsequently rewarded the 21-year-old with a new contract until 2027 - but Romano says that is unlikely to fend off Arsenal’s interest.

Indeed, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed in March that Arsenal’s summer transfer priority for their midfield is Caicedo ahead of Declan Rice.

Now Romano has confirmed that a door could be open to a deal – if the north London side can beat Chelsea and Liverpool to the rising star.

“From what I understand, this contract was to give Caicedo a longer deal but also a bigger salary as it was promised to the player. But the reality is that Caicedo is expected to leave in the summer to get a transfer to a top club,” Romano revealed via his YouTube channel.

“Arsenal are still there. They still want Caicedo, he’s one of the midfielders they are still interested in today with Declan Rice. For Arsenal, he’s still a possibility.

“Let’s see what happens also with Liverpool and Chelsea because they are looking for a player in that position and Caicedo has always been appreciated.

“But Caicedo will get a top club move in the summer. This is the expectation.”

Manchester United have also been linked with a possible move for Caicedo in the summer, but it appears the Arsenal remain the frontrunners for the Brighton star followed by Liverpool and Chelsea.
