Cristiano Ronaldo has not stopped scoring in 2023, enjoying a fantastic run of club and international form since leaving Manchester United.

Since joining Al Nassr on a free transfer in January, Ronaldo has already scored nine goals in all competitions from 10 matches.

All nine of these goals came in league play from eight Saudi Pro League matches.

He scored all four goals for Al Nassr in their 4-0 away win at Al Wehda on February 9, and also hit a hattrick on February 25 in a 3-0 win at Damak.

Ronaldo has also been on fire for the Portugal national team recently.

His World Cup was not so impressive as he scored just one goal, a penalty, in five appearances at Qatar 2022. Three of these were starts before he was dropped to substitute for Portugal’s last-16 and quarter-final matches.

But Ronaldo has been in inspired form at the start of Portugal’s Euro 2024 qualification campaign in March.

He scored twice in the 4-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein before adding another double in the 6-0 thumping of Luxembourg.

That took Ronaldo’s international tally to 122 goals from 198 appearances - making him the highest scorer and the most capped player in international football history.

It also means that Ronaldo has scored a hugely impressive 14 goals since leaving Man Utd from 17 games for club and country.

Critics will argue that much of the opposition Ronaldo has scored against is not elite but these are still fantastic numbers.

Ronaldo’s contract rescinded at Man Utd

Ronaldo’s contract at Man Utd was rescinded in November after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo caused huge controversy ahead of the World Cup in November by sitting down for a no-holds barred interview with TalkTV journalist Morgan.

During the interview, Ronaldo slammed a number of key figures at Man Utd, including current manager Erik ten Hag, past manager Ralf Rangnick, owners The Glazers and club legends Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

He accused Ten Hag and others of betraying him and trying to force him out of the club and was heavily critical of the way Man Utd was being run.

Ronaldo’s contract was subsequently rescinded by Man Utd before the World Cup began and no other major clubs around Europe were willing to sign him thereafter.

The 38-year-old eventually joined Saudi side Al-Nassr in January, all but bringing to an end his top-level club career.
