Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea hasn’t had the best start to the season, with many calls for him to be dropped and eventually replaced.

The Spaniard had a tough opening two games of the campaign, with Manchester United falling to defeat against Brighton and Brentford and De Gea making a few mistakes.

That led to calls for him to be replaced in the summer transfer window, with players such as Mark Flekken and Kevin Trapp linked with moves, but Manchester United only signed Martin Dubravka to provide competition.

Now, there may be a chance for Manchester United to let go of De Gea, as there is interest in him from Italy, where Juventus may be in for a new goalkeeper.

Juventus looking at De Gea situation

De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford runs out at the end of the campaign, and Manchester United have the option to extend, in a deal that would keep him as the world’s best paid goalkeeper.

However, according to The Telegraph, Manchester United are going to take up the option to not extend his deal, and will let go of the Spanish goalkeeper at the end of the season.

Juventus are keeping tabs on the situation, as they’re in the market for a new goalkeeper themselves, with the Bianconeri eyeing a long-term successor to their number one, Wojciech Szczesny.

Szczesny’s contract expires in 2024, and the Pole hasn’t kept his number one spot in recent times, with Juventus feeling it would be a good option to make a move for De Gea.

There is a belief that Erik ten Hag is not entirely sold on the idea of keeping De Gea, so seeing him depart wouldn’t be the biggest surprise at the end of the campaign.

He wants someone who is more comfortable with the ball at his feet and more commanding of his area, something he has had in his teams of the past.
