Manchester United have been mercilessly mocked on social media following reports that they are launching a bid for Real Madrid star Casemiro.

The Red Devils have endured a disastrous start to the 2022-23 season, losing both of their opening games of the campaign.

They lost 2-1 at home to Brighton before being thrashed 4-0 at Brentford last Saturday.

It could not have been a worse beginning to the reign of new Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag, from whom there were such big hopes going into the season.

Ten Hag and the club’s fans are desperate to sign players before the end of the transfer window, having only brought in Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen and Tom Huddlestone on free transfers.

But Man Utd are finding it very difficult to attract top-class players given the fact they are in such crisis.

They are bottom of the Premier League and have not won a trophy for five years.

It is for this reason that Frenkie de Jong, their top target for the rest of the summer, has rejected them.

It was reported on Tuesday in Marca that due to De Jong’s rejection, Man Utd have launched a bid for Real Madrid anchor man Casemiro.

The Brazilian has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the world over the last decade and is a key part of the Madrid team who won the Champions League in May.

And the idea that Casemiro would leave the best team in Europe to sign for Man Utd has been brutally mocked by users on Twitter.
