Manchester United are eager to improve their attacking line and have reportedly made an enquiry for a former Manchester City player in a bid to do so.

The club only have two senior forwards and wish to improve on the right wing, having been priced out of a move for Ajax’s Antony, who was Erik ten Hag’s top target for the position.

Additionally, they’ve looked at other options, including PSV’s Cody Gakpo, but they are waiting to see what happens with the club in the Champions League qualification rounds.

In the meantime, Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane is a name that has come up, and United have reportedly enquired about his situation at the club.

Man Utd tracking Sane's status

Sane has been at Bayern Munich since 2020, having signed from Manchester City after four years at the Etihad Stadium, where he managed to win two Premier League titles.

The German then made it clear that his desire was to move to Bavaria, and he earned a move after tense negotiations between the two clubs.

However, the move hasn’t worked out as planned as he struggled under Hansi Flick and while he showed glimpses of form under Julian Nagelsmann, there are still doubts over his Bayern future.

The German champions paid a mammoth €49 million for the player back in 2020 and would want to recoup that amount if they are to sell him on yet again.

In his time in Bavaria, he has scored 25 goals in 91 appearances, including one in Bayern’s 5-3 DFL Supercup win over RB Leipzig last week.

The 26-year-old made a positive start under both his managers, but struggled to maintain that consistency as he was usurped by the likes of Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and others.

A move to Manchester United would be a shock, but it’s something they’ve done before, as they signed former City academy player Jadon Sancho when he was at Borussia Dortmund.
