Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Manchester United, and German outfit Borussia Dortmund have been the latest club he’s been rumoured to join.

It was reported by CBS Sports in America and Bild in Germany that Dortmund were looking at the possibility of a move and that agent Jorge Mendes was pushing for it as well.

Ronaldo wants to be at a club where he can play Champions League football and compete for trophies, something he feels he can’t do at Old Trafford with Manchester United.

The player was reportedly open to the idea of moving to Germany as well, as he felt it would allow him to be the first player to win league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Germany.

No contact between Dortmund and Ronaldo

However, Ronaldo and Mendes have now suffered a blow to their hopes, as it’s emerged that there’s been no contact from the German club, and that the forward will have to continue his hunt for a new club.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke about the rumours to the media: "I love this player, it's certainly a charming idea to see Cristiano play at Signal Iduna Park. But there is no contact at all between the parties involved."

Ronaldo made his desire to leave the Red Devils clear earlier in the summer, and he even missed the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, citing personal reasons.

He returned to the team ahead of the season, and has played in both of Manchester United’s opening defeats, having started the 4-0 loss at Brentford this past weekend.

Previously, clubs such as Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have denied the opportunity to sign Ronaldo, citing finances, his age or tactical fit as their reasoning behind it.

Ronaldo is still eager to leave the club, and will have to work quickly if he is to move in this window as the transfer period ends in under two weeks, with clubs slowly wrapping up their business.
