Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is ready to put an end to the Cristiano Ronaldo exit saga.

The star's wish to leave has cast a shadow over Ten Hag's first months at Old Trafford, with United holding firm in their desire to keep him.

But the situation has come to a head following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.

Ronaldo could not help his side avoid back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford which have already plunged Ten Hag's tenure into crisis.

And with reports mounting that the star's behaviour is alienating his team-mates, the Dutchman wants to act fast.

The Sun claims that Ten Hag is set to grant Ronaldo his exit wish, after affirming publicly on a number of occasions that he sees him as a key part of his squad.

One problem from United's perspective, though, is finding a club for the wantaway veteran.

Having brought him in from Juventus less than a year ago the Red Devils will not allow him to terminate his contract, while they are yet to receive any concrete bids for his services.

Agent Jorge Mendes claims that he has a deal already in place, but the club has declined to divulge their asking price for the former Real Madrid ace.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are two clubs which have been tentatively linked with Ronaldo, with both offering the Champions League football which is his prime motivation.

Recent reports suggest Alvaro Morata or Antoine Griezmann could move the other way in a deal with the Spanish side, though fears of a backlash from fans, who hung a "CR7 Not Welcome" banner from the stands at a pre-season game in protest at the links, could make the transfer unfeasible.
