Kalvin Phillips’ proposed move to Manchester City could open the door for a big future move for Jude Bellingham to Liverpool, as the domino affect could benefit Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Phillips is expected to leave Leeds United this summer, with Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly agreeing £45 million deal for the Yorkshire-born player.

The midfielder’s move to City will see him add to the depth at their disposal in a side already consisting of the likes of Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and more.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been needing to strengthen in midfield and are identifying Bellingham as a target for next summer.

Bellingham opportunity could open for Liverpool

The transfer of Phillips would give Liverpool a free run at the Borussia Dortmund player, with the German side asking close to £100m for his signature.

Bellingham has been the subject of interest from several clubs across Europe, but Liverpool seem to be the frontrunners for his signature ahead of a possible move next year.

Dortmund have already sold Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland in the last two summers, and would be uninterested in selling another one of their best players again this year.

Liverpool have made it clear they are willing to spend big when their squad needs reinforcing, as evident by the signings of Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Darwin Nunez over the last few years.

Bellingham could be the next man on that list, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago only getting older, which means they need reinforcements by next year.

It was reported earlier in the summer that Liverpool’s transfer business for this year is already complete having secured three players in Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho.

Any further incomings this year will depend on departures, but it seems they are happy with their midfield options, with depth coming from Naby Keita, Harvey Elliot and others.

Bellingham will be 20 by next summer when a move may be possible, and has already had such an impressive career for club and country.

He’s a player with 90 appearances over the last two seasons with Dortmund, and has played 15 times for England, creating a fine CV for such a young player.

Making a move to Liverpool would make sense for his development – Klopp will be around until at least 2026, and Liverpool as a club have already shown they can develop great talent, something Bellingham will be encouraged by.
