New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is set to lay down the law early in his new job by slashing the summer holidays for the first-team squad.

The Red Devils have had a nightmare season – the worst in their Premier League history, despite starting the campaign talking up their title chances.

The club is riven with division and it is widely accepted that a dramatic change of culture is required if there is to be a U-turn in their fortunes. It is hoped that Ajax boss Ten Hag will be able to bring this.

The 52-year-old has started his revolution even before his contract at Old Trafford begins, according to the Daily Mail, which indicates that the Dutchman has taken a big decision over the players’ preparations for the 2022/23 season.

Indeed, he is said to have slashed their holiday allowance this summer by two weeks to bring them back to pre-season training early to get them in shape for the new campaign.

Why will Ten Hag cut Man Utd holidays?

Ten Hag’s move is likely driven by several factors.

Firstly, it shows the squad that they will have to work on his terms, and that he will not be dictated to by what has gone before him at Man Utd. This is an important step given the widespread reports of player pressure at the Red Devils.

Second, it is an important move because he is set to change the playing style of the team entirely. They are expected to employ a far more energy-intense pressing game, which will not only require extensive tactical work on the training ground, but it will also put a premium on the fitness levels of the players. In order to be as sharp as possible for the beginning of the new season, these two weeks could prove to be invaluable.

Manchester United need lots of hard work to turn their fortunes around, and Ten Hag is showing that he is not scared this.
