Arsenal will have something of a rebuilding job to complete in the summer, and one the players who has been earmarked to leave is winger Nicolas Pepe.

Having signed from Lille in the summer of 2019 for €80 million, there were high hopes that the Ivory Coast international would blossom into one of the league’s leading forward players.

REVEALED: The world's most valuable players

While Pepe has shown glimpses of his undoubted potential, he has fallen well short of the expectations that Arsenal placed in him by making him such a massive signing.

During Saturday’s 2-1 loss against Brighton, head coach Mikel Arteta displayed his reticence to use the 26-year-old. Pepe was a substitute who was not brought on until the final 16 minutes, by which point the Gunners were 2-0 down. He did have a positive impact on the match but his peripheral status at the club has led to reports that he will be sold in the summer.

Nicolas Pepe's transfer value

Indeed, according to Calciomercato, Arsenal have placed an asking price of €25m on the attacker.

FootballTransfers agrees that such a value is realistic for the player, albeit at the top end of his price range. Our calculations suggest that a fair price for Pepe ranges between €15-20m.

This figure is reached by using a formula that takes into account hundreds of in-game data points, as well as external factors such as contract length and age.

It is, of course, logical that Arsenal will try to sell him for as much as they possibly can in the summer and they will doubtless find suitors from abroad.

Pepe’s reputation means that it will be difficult for him to find a club in the Premier League, particularly in the top half of the table, but it is not implausible that a team from Serie A or even Ligue 1 gambles on him rediscovering the form that made him so briefly one of the hottest properties on the transfer market.

There is little doubt, though, that Pepe’s move to Arsenal has not worked out and that it is time for both parties to move on.
