Real Madrid have been linked with a surprising summer transfer bid for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison.

It is likely that Los Blancos will undertake a squad overhaul at the conclusion of the current season as they have been linked with a number of superstars for the next transfer window.

Real Madrid's primary target remains Kylian Mbappe whom the club will likely sign as a free agent when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires.

However, other positions will also be addressed as they will also begin their search for a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.

The Croatian will turn 37 at the start of the 2022/23 season and so does not have long playing time left at the top level.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid want to sign Maddison as Modric's replacement as they believe he is similar in style.

Last summer Leicester reportedly turned down a bid of £60 million for the player, with the bid believed to have come from another Premier League side.

Any subsequent offer a year later from Madrid or any other club would need to be more.

Maddison has been in excellent form for the Foxes in the current campaign, with 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions.

How much would Maddison cost?

The report from Fichajes suggests that Leicester will only listen to offers of at least £66m (€80m).

FootballTransfers values the England international at €32m.
