Liverpool are ready to make a transfer move for Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

Although the teenager has shot to stardom, this rapid ascendancy in the game has posed a major problem for Barca.

Gavi still has a release clause valued at only €50 million, making him suddenly appear a bargain signing for Europe’s top clubs, who are well aware of the talent he has shown.

The 17-year-old may be in his debut season, but he has excelled to such a degree that he has already enjoyed international honours, notably running the show for Spain in their Nations League semi-final against Italy back in the autumn.

Premier League clubs are among those to have taken note, with Chelsea having been previously linked with him, and as Barcelona scramble to tie him down to an improved contract with a far higher release figure, Liverpool are now lurking.

Liverpool's lucrative offer

According to El Nacional, the Reds are set to offer Gavi an enormous signing bons in comparison to what he is being offered by Barca.

The contract offer on the table from the Catalan side would offer Gavi a €2m signing bonus but Liverpool’s offer reportedly stands at €10m – five times the amount the player’s parent club is willing to offer.

It is expected, however, that Gavi will remain at Barcelona, partly out of a love for the club where he has played for the last seven years, but also partly because he believes it is the best place for him to develop his game.

Already he has been hailed as a natural heir to Xavi, who was recently appointed as head coach for the Catalans.

In order to stay, though, he will have to knock back Liverpool’s riches, but the odds are that Gavi will be a building block of the next era at Barcelona.
