Few would doubt that Chelsea’s season has fallen off the rails because Thomas Tuchel’s side are simply incapable of finding a striker that can score goals.

Despite now being in mid February, the Stamford Bridge side have yet to witness a single player break into double figures for goals in all competitions.

Despite featuring in no less than 26 games for the club this season, new signing Romelu Lukaku has managed just nine goals. And Timo Werner is hardly doing much better, with just six from 20 appearances.

As such, fans and indeed the club itself may be scratching their heads and wondering whether a dive back into the transfer market may be needed in the summer.

However, rather than spend a fortune on another high-profile striker, Chelsea may already have the answer to their goal scoring problems at the club.

Broja’s remarkable season at Southampton

We are of course talking about young striker Armando Broja, who Chelsea loaned out to Southampton at the start of this season and who has been going from strength to strength with the Saints ever since.

Indeed, in just 24 appearances for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, the 20-year-old striker has already bagged eight goals and one assist. And when we break that down into his average per game, it works out at an impressive 0.55 goals or assists per 90 for Southampton.

In comparison, Lukaku’s average for Chelsea this season stands at just 0.54 and Werner’s is only slightly better at 0.64. But bear in mind that both of those players are playing for a team that are far more dominant in each passing game.

What’s perhaps most interesting is that Broja’s average in the Premier League of 0.44 goals per 90 is already better than the aforementioned Chelsea duo and if he finished the season with more goals than either striker then Tuchel may just find the solution to all of his striker problems fall into his lap when Broja returns from his loan spell on the south coast.
