Arsenal have been urged to sign Manchester United flop Donny van de Beek and resurrect his career.

That is the view of ex-Gunners frontman Kevin Campbell who feels the Dutchman can play in a variety of midfield roles.

Van de Beek has suffered a torrid 15 months at Old Trafford and doesn't seem to feature in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans despite the team's struggles this season.

The player has managed just 16 minutes of Premier League action this season

and reports are he has had enough and wants out in January.

What did Campbell say?

If he does become available in January, Campbell has no doubt he can fit in at the Emirates.

Speaking to The Highbury Squad, Campbell said: "I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe Donny van de Beek can play, if given the opportunity.

He can play anywhere around the midfield – holding, at eight, and he can play attacking

"He can play anywhere around the midfield – holding, at eight, and he can play attacking. We’ve got another one who is versatile – a plug-and-play player for us."

Could van de Beek be a good fit at Arsenal?

Donny van de Beek arrived at Manchester United with much optimism and hope he could be the man to take the club to the next level.

And it was a fine start, scoring on his Old Trafford debut.

But not much else has gone his way since then and it appears it is just a case of the manager not fancying him.

He favours the attacking midfield role and it is the position that brought him 41 goals in 175 Ajax appearances.

But Arsenal are rich in wealth already in that position with Emile Smith-Rowe shining so far this season and Martin Odegaard also in competition for that job in Arteta's team.

It's hard to see van de Beek displacing either of those two and it's likely a move back to the continent would be the best play for all parties.
