Olivier Giroud has admitted that he remains bitter over the manner in which he left Chelsea in the summer.

Giroud, 35, had spent three-and-a-half years with the Stamford Bridge side, who triggered a one-year extension in his contract in order to be able to secure a fee for the World Cup winner.

Milan were willing to pay €1 million to sign the striker, who admits several months on that he has not quite gotten over the way he was dumped by Chelsea.

“Bitterness remains over my last three months and not getting on during the Champions League final,” he told L’Equipe.

“There is a frustration that my lack of playing time at the end has taken away a bit of my satisfaction at Chelsea.

“In terms of trophies, important moments, being the top scorer in the Europa League in 2019 and the special final against Arsenal, with a goal, an assist and a penalty won, I think my record remains magnificent.

“In three-and-a-half years at Chelsea, there were two big European titles and I won almost 50% of the titles during the Abramovich era.”

Giroud admits that he left Chelsea because a new cycle in his career had to begin.

“The last few months at Chelsea were difficult,” the former Arsenal man admitted. “I was lucky to spend nine years in the Premier League, especially in the same city. For my family, for me, it was ideal. But in terms of sport, I needed something else. I was ready.

“I had no other issues with Chelsea. I was less and less happy at the end, with no playing time.

“But there was also positive emotions about this new beginning. I’m leaving with the Champions League, the most beautiful trophy in club competition, and I was also the club’s top scorer in that competition with six goals.”

Giroud left Chelsea having played 119 games and having scored 39 goals.
