But, speaking at a Sky Sports Fan Q&A, he told supporters his career could have been so different.

What did Aubameyang say?

Aubameyang was answering fan questions in a YouTube video posted on the Sky Sports channel.

Laughing as he spoke about topics such as goal celebrations, pets and his love of cars, the former Borussia Dortmund man smiled when asked if he would rather retire or play for Spurs.

“You don’t need to ask the question. You know it already. I would retire." Aubameyang said.

“I don’t know if you know this, but a few years ago, I was close to signing for Tottenham. In the end, I don’t know what they did. So I’d rather retire!”

Arsenal's recent resurgence

Aubameyang's goals have helped Mikel Arteta's side rocket up the Premier League after a slow start.

The 32-year-old has netted four times in nine starts with Arsenal now sitting in fifth place, six points behind leaders Chelsea.

It is a remarkable turnaround considering their start to the campaign saw them bottom of the league after three games without a goal scored.

But they have now won six of their last eight league fixtures, drawing the other two with eye-catching victories away at Leicester City and a 3-1 triumph over bitter rivals Tottenham.

Up next however they face one of the toughest tests in the league, a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool - the team directly above them in the league.

A win for the Gunners will see them leapfrog Jurgen Klopp's side in the table and have the supporters dreaming of a return to European football.
