Ajax defender Perr Schuurs has ruled out the possibility of a January move to Liverpool.

The Premier League champions are in the market for a centre-back in the mid-season window after losing both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term injuries.

And Schuurs, who impressed against the Reds in the Champions League group stages earlier this season, was reportedly one of the players being considered.

However, for now, the 21-year-old is happy to simply be starting games for Ajax, and believes it could be too early for him to consider a move to one of Europe’s more testing leagues with Liverpool.

  • “I’m now a starting player which was my goal beforehand. I am very happy about that,” he said.

“I feel at home here. I’m not really in favour of going abroad early. I feel at home here so I want to play here for a few more seasons.

“It is not always fun to read [criticism]. You know when you play at Ajax that you are under a magnifying glass. But if you come out well, you will only be appreciated more.”
