Rangers defender James Tavernier is reportedly the subject of significant transfer interest from Greek outfit Panathinaikos.

The 34-year-old is into the final six months of his current contract at Ibrox and he could be set to receive a pre-contract offer from Panathinaikos, who are managed by ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

That is according to The Daily Mail, who report that Panathinaikos are currently weighing up a Bosman deal for the Rangers club legend.

Tavernier moved to Ibrox from Wigan Athletic for a measly fee of just €250,000 in July 2015 and he has racked up a whopping 550 first-team appearances for the club, scoring 138 goals, providing 146 assists and winning five trophies.

However, an 11-year stint at the club could be set to end this summer, with the Englishman out of contract at the end of June.

As per The Daily Record, Tavernier has already confirmed that contract extension talks have taken place with the Rangers hierarchy, although he has refused to announce whether his spell at the club will extend into 2027.

Rangers transfer business

Although Rangers could be set to lose Tavernier to Panathinaikos this summer, they have already acted quickly in the transfer market since the winter window opened on 1 January.

Rohl’s side have announced the acquisitions of SK Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and KVC Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens, while they have reached a full agreement to sign VfL Wolfsburg winger Andreas Skov Olsen on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Ibrox giants are also interested in signing a new centre forward before Transfer Deadline Day on 2 February, with Hibernian star Kieron Bowie among their top targets.

Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership table, although they have won five consecutive league matches and they are now only six points behind leaders Hearts as they chase their first top flight title since 2021.
