Rangers manager Danny Rohl gets exciting January transfer message
Rangers have said they intend to back new manager Danny Rohl in the transfer market in January.
Sporting director Kevin Thelwell has sent a message of intent from the Glasgow outfit ahead of the transfer period, indicating that major business will be done once again.
The Ibrox giants signed 13 players in the summer under Russell Martin, but few of these have proven successful and a rethink appears to be required now that Rohl is in charge.
Rangers are 12 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts and have made a miserable start in the Europa League, with qualification already looking a long shot.
The board have admitted that they are addressing the situation – even if that means more spending.
“We spent a couple of weeks allowing Danny the opportunity to evaluate the group and review the players that we’ve currently got in the squad," Thelwell told Rangers TV.
“We’ve had a big meeting this week to sit down and talk about his feelings around the group so far and what he’s learnt about them and also areas that we both think that we can improve.
“We’ll use that information plus the information from the owners and other sources to start to plan for January and we do expect to be fairly active.”

Thelwell continued: “It’s probably an important point to make that, whilst I and others will do a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure we get in a space where we bring targets to the table that we think could improve the group, it really is about Danny having a final say in these moments.
“It’s important as a sporting director that you don’t bring players that the head coach doesn’t want to sign off on.
“So it very much is about us working together and, in this instance, Danny having a final say.”
Rangers spent nearly €30 million recruiting new players in the summer, but despite splashing big money have failed to assemble a competitive squad.
There are major concerns over the competence of those in charge of recruitment at Ibrox, and should they get it wrong again in January, it would be little surprise to see changes at boardroom level ahead of the summer.
